Hedge Fund gets help from TELEHOUSE and Proteli
July 14, 2014Background
The client company, a rapidly growing hedge fund with sophisticated technological needs was quickly outgrowing their IT room. There was a constant threat due to environmental issues, building maintenance, and power limitations. Additionally, the Internet Service Provider offerings in the building were limited and not very competitive. Additionally, the client had numerous dedicated circuits tied to market data feeds as is typical amongst financial service firms. There was a growing awareness of the complexity and the logistics of moving offices in order to accommodate and plan for growth.
Next Steps
The client company had arrived at the decision to outsource their IT requirements and possibly explore a Data Center solution. The client hired Proteli, a third party and a Manhattan based IT consulting firm who had strong expertise in the financial services industry. Proteli also had strong relationships with a third party Data Center provider, TELEHOUSE in the New York City and the client needed an advocate to direct and guide them to make the best decision on a new Data Center partner.
PROTELI reviewed the current infrastructure to identify the line of business’s Mission Critical components.
“We focused on latency sensitive components to design a network that is just as responsive to the users as they were accustomed to in the local environment. Typically, we would have to build a new site from scratch and cutover.” says Martin Propper, Managing member.
Instead, Proteli focused on project planning and logistics to minimize the cost of additional equipment and keep downtime to a minimum. We leveraged, TELEHOUSE the New York city Data Center provider to establish low latency redundant point-to-point networks back to our client’s midtown office.
“TELEHOUSE has been in business for 25 years in the US, clearly Security and Reliability are what really differentiates us from the competition here in New York” Our 85 10th avenue, Chelsea facility has 60,000 square feet and boasts a 99.999% uptime”. says Satoshi Adachi, VP of Marketing
Recommendations:
From within the Data Center, the customer has access to high speed internet connectivity as well as reliable connectivity to the market data feeds. We were able to construct a complete virtual environment leveraging EMC Storage Area Network and VMware. For geographic diversity, all mission critical data is replicated real-time to another site over 100 miles away.
Proteli is a big proponent of moving the traditional IT room out of an office building and into a state of the art data center
“Not only does this provide the physical security and power stability that our clients seek, it offers the flexibility to quickly expand and tackle new projects.” says Martin Propper, Managing member.
Recent Expansion:
The customer recently added additional cabinet space and seamlessly doubled the power distribution across the board. The Data Center at 85 10th avenue in Chelsea offered the power and cooling that was required.
“High density power and the corresponding cooling requirement are difficult to accommodate in many Manhattan buildings” says Martin Propper”
