KDDI Invests In New Technology Companies in US and Japan
January 30, 2015KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takashi Tanaka) announced today that it has invested in two technology companies via the corporate venture fund KDDI Open Innovation Fund, which is managed by Global Brain Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasuhiko Yurimoto). The two companies are Ossia, Inc. (Referred to below as Ossia), who developed a wireless power charging technology called “Cota”, and Mist Technologies, Inc. (Referred to below as Mist Technologies), who provides a contents delivery platform utilizing P2P communication technology called “MistCDN”.
Ossia is a company based in United States who provides a wireless power charging technology. The more IoT devices and sensors surrounds in the forthcoming era, the more efficiency of power charging gets important. KDDI invested in Ossia who has a great solution in this space. When Ossia explore entrance into Japanese market, KDDI will provide a wide range of support for Ossia as a new wireless power charging platform.
Mist Technologies is based in Japan who provides a P2P contents delivery platform “MistCDN”. With “MistCDN”, contents that have more simultaneous audiences will have faster deliveries as the number of delivering browsers increases. Also by sharing the contents between browsers, it reduces the traffic from servers, enabling major cut-down on the infrastructure cost. As the demand increases for streaming large volume contents such as 4K/8K videos, KDDI invested in Mist Technologies who has a great solution in this space. The company is also the winner of KDDI’s incubation program “KDDI ∞ Labo” in July 2014. KDDI will provide a wide range of support for Mist Technologies in their worldwide business development.
