Telehouse for Technophiles: The Link Between Cloud Adoption and Connectivity
April 6, 2017How Surging Cloud Use is Making Connectivity a Differentiator for Data Centers
It’s safe to say that the global tech forecast is cloudy, and getting cloudier.
Consider this: According to the Cisco Global Cloud Index, global IP traffic will account for more than 92 percent of total data center traffic by 2020. In addition, cloud data center traffic for consumer and business applications will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 30 percent over the next three years, and 68 percent of cloud workloads will be processed by public cloud data centers – a 49 percent increase from 2015.
This migration to cloud computing can largely be attributed to performance-driven enterprises’ growing use of cloud-based applications. In one recent study conducted by Skyhigh Networks that surveyed various IT decision-makers, 79 percent of respondents claimed that they receive regular requests from end-users each month to buy more cloud applications. Among these applications, communication and collaboration via video, file and content sharing, and social media topped the list of the most frequently requested capabilities.
Due to the real-time nature of these applications, low latency connections to the clouds that enable them are critical when it comes to their reliable delivery and performance. As such, today’s enterprises also require lightning-fast, private and scalable connectivity between their IT infrastructure and leading Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. In fact, connectivity is emerging as a top differentiator in the global colocation market.
To help facilitate these connections and meet customers’ rising demands for cloud connectivity, some data center providers are going a step beyond traditional interconnection by providing access to multi-cloud connectivity exchanges. Newly available services such as Telehouse Cloud Link offer enterprises the ability to streamline connectivity and secure a private connection with predictable and scalable bandwidth between their networks and multiple cloud services. Telehouse Cloud Link will be available in the U.S. later this month.
As the proliferation of cloud continues throughout the global market, this new service offering makes it easier for Telehouse customers to manage their hybrid cloud infrastructure with fast and secure data transfer between their network and mission-critical cloud services over a single, dedicated connection.
The Telehouse team will be available to discuss the upcoming launch of Telehouse Cloud Link in the U.S. during the Channel Partners Conference & Expo, taking place April 10-13 in Las Vegas.
